My name is Aviaja, I am a 29 year old DJ living in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Who are you & how did you get started
My name is Aviaja, I’m 29 years old, born in Odense raised in Southern Denmark and moved to Copenhagen when i was 18. My obsession with music started early in life, but I didn’t actually get into DJing until I was 18. I was working in a club at the time and some friends of mine showed me the ropes. From the very first time I stepped into that DJ booth, I was hooked.
What are your achievements?
I’ve gotten to play some pretty sweet gigs over the last few years. I got to play sets at the Strøm Festival, rock out at SOUNDBLOK at Roskilde, throw down a set at Coma Club and last year I spent a whole month DJing at various clubs and festivals in Spain. But I think my biggest achievement is founding my own record label. My focus is working with hand-picked, super talented minorities and helping them find a place in the music world.
What is your community?
My community extends to anything and everything that has to do with music. But I focus a lot of my energy on working with minorities and helping them find a place and a voice within the music industry.
What is the noise you are trying to break through and what are you working on now?
I’m trying to break through the noise both with my own music and with that of my artists. We are not conforming to what society wants or expects of us but simply doing what we love and getting our message across.
What is your place in the SOUNDBOKS universe & how are you empowered by SOUNDBOKS?
Joining the SOUNDBOKS host team in 2019, I was overwhelmed by the community that surrounds it. The brand has such a young, fresh, positive and healthy energy about it that you can’t help to feel empowered and like you can do anything you set your mind to. I’m so stoked to get to be a part of something where I could possibly influence someone else to chase their dreams.
I’ve played a lot of gigs for SOUNDBOKS in the last two years, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. The most memorable was probably playing at the SOUNDBLOK (The SOUNDBOKS stage) at Roskilde Festival, where I got to link up with all the other SOUNDBOKS DJ’s. It was my birthday and my friend, Karim, played happy birthday with 300 people singing along. I cried tears of joy - it was such a crazy, awesome moment that I will never forget and that would never have happened without this badass community. Since then, I’ve DJ’d on a firetruck, a beer wagon, and a raft, so I guess my place in the SOUNDBOKS universe is to be the girl who plays the weirdest venues - but I secretly love it!
